Come slowly to me

Patient. Patiently

But now I can see

That there’s a way out

Concert Photography Masterclass

Beatsteaks, Vienna 2002 _This is how I do it [with an almost ancient canon ixus]I just came across this article here, published in the Digital Photographer magazine. Daniel Boud, photographer from Sydney, gives an overview of what makes live music photography aspiring. Well, his photos are amazing, but how could you not make get spectacular shots from Iggy Pop… Personally, I think the artist and his relation to his music and how this is expressed are THE most important thing. Boring artist = boring pictures. This has nothing to do with genre or style, the quietest show can be the most intense too. A passionate artist and good stage light and you can barely do something wrong [if, of course, you have the technical basics and a feeling for the music, too].

Anyway, it’s a nice article that gives quite a good impression how it works and shows decent examples with all the EXIF-Data so one can see what he really did. Nothing brand-new for me, but still inspiring.

Certainly more interesting than an equivalent German article: Why should I even bother reading an article about professional photography if the pictures are that bad?

Anyway, I’ll be out tonight shooting local band Deckchair Orange at the Flex tonight. You’ll be able to see if I’ve learnt something from Boud by tomorrow.

Einsam & Verlassen III

IMG_5637_5_6

The 2.600m2 Josef-Afritsch-Heim at the Hörndlwald in Vienna was built shortly after World War II and is only one of two buildings built in this style, that still exist. It has been abandoned for a couple of years now, with an ongoing politic discussion about the future of this property. Learn more here.

On a personal note: weather was bad, lightning conditions were fairly bad, mood was bad and so I decided to go on a high-contrast Black & White this time.

Einsam & Verlassen II

HDR_IMG_5427

Abandoned places are fascinating. Today’s set comes from a late 18th century villa, located at 50.000m2 Dehnepark, Vienna. It was built in new gothic style and was only part of a whole lot of caves, chapels and and pavillons that gave the park a biedermeieresque touch. Now, the ruins of the villa are all that’s left from the glory days.

The Beatles - Something

You’re asking me will my love grow
I don’t know, I don’t know
You stick around now it may show
I don’t know, I don’t know

Something in the way she knows
And all I have to do is think of her
Something in the things she shows me

Richard Swift - Buildings In America

I’m hungry, hungover
You’re an angel, I’m comin’ over
But please don’t laugh, don’t say that it’s okay
You’re a plane crash, blister, fever
You’re a liar, a believer
But please don’t laugh, don’t say that it’s okay
[…]
I messed it up
I blew a kiss
And caught your breath
To see you ?

Song Title: Buildings In America

Ein fehlgeleiteter Patriot (von vielen)

Markovics spielt Fuchs.Zumindest beklemmend.
