Welcome Reception Outtakes

Welcome Reception

FTTH and PON. Nanophotonics. WDM-PON and OCDMA. Parametric effects in fibres. Real-time Digital Signal Processing for Optical Transceivers. Nonlinearity Mitigation in Coherent Systems. OFDM and Multitone. Quantum Information Technologies. Optics in Computing.

Welcome Reception

Do you know what I’m talking about? I don’t. But that did not refrain me from taking photos at ECOC 2009, the largest conference on optical communication in Europe.

Welcome Reception

And what do you do, when you are at a place filled with business people from all over the world who talk about [potentially] important business things and might not want you to interrupt them like a funny party knips for posing and smiling but you have to deliver?

Welcome Reception

The answer is: Canon EF 50mm 1,4 USM.

Welcome Reception

Because then, you don’t have to disturb. And you don’t need a flash. And you might end up with a couple of outtakes that might not represent the conference in all it’s complexity and with all it’s aspects, but which might make sense on their own.

Welcome Reception

I might write something more serious about similarities and differences of taking photos during speeches or discussions and concerts, because this is still what I do ways more often [and it's supposed to stay like that]. I just have to find the time. We’ll see.

Aw c’mon. :) Compared to it’s outcomes and compared to other lenses, it’s a ridiculously cheap buy. And if ~350€ is too much, you still can get the 1.8 for ~100€ only.
