To be honest, I don’t know a thing about this building. I tried to find information online only, but there was no single trace. What I can tell you, is that it’s worth a visit if you need a decent location that offers a whole lot of interesting spots and angles. It was quite late for an afternoon in winter, but as the building is surrounded by enough space and a flat landscape, so even the last sunbeams flooded the premises. You will see, light changed very, very fast. From cloudy to late afternoon sun with an amazingly dark sky in the east. I have a couple of HDR’s too, but they’re a little behind in the workflow. Will come back to that later.

The 2.600m2 Josef-Afritsch-Heim at the Hörndlwald in Vienna was built shortly after World War II and is only one of two buildings built in this style, that still exist. It has been abandoned for a couple of years now, with an ongoing politic discussion about the future of this property. Learn more here.
On a personal note: weather was bad, lightning conditions were fairly bad, mood was bad and so I decided to go on a high-contrast Black & White this time.

Abandoned places are fascinating. Today’s set comes from a late 18th century villa, located at 50.000m2 Dehnepark, Vienna. It was built in new gothic style and was only part of a whole lot of caves, chapels and and pavillons that gave the park a biedermeieresque touch. Now, the ruins of the villa are all that’s left from the glory days.

I am quite well aware of the fact that this is not Neverland. Still, this it has similarities. It is a place where I have some childhood memories attached to, mostly good. It is abandoned, very much. Not a single window has survived. It is in fact very scary to walk the pitch dark premises alone.
